This policy explains what information Ashlyn Tewell Photography collects through www.ashlyntewell.com, why we collect it, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email us at ashlyntewell@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • When you contact us. What you type into our forms, like your name, email address, phone number and message. We also note the page you sent it from and how you found us (for example a search engine or a link in a campaign).
  • When you leave a comment. Your name, email address and comment. Your name and comment are shown on the site once approved; your email address is never shown.
  • Photos. Our galleries show our work, which can include photos of people. A private gallery can only be opened with its link (and its password, if it has one). We count how often a gallery is viewed and downloaded, not who did it. If you're in a photo and would like it taken down, just ask.
  • When you visit. Like every website, our server receives technical details such as your IP address and browser type. Our hosting keeps these in short-term logs for security and to fix problems. When you send a form, we also keep a scrambled code made from your IP address, not the address itself, to block spam.
  • Visit counts. We count visits to see which pages are useful. This doesn't use cookies and doesn't identify you: we record the page, the site that sent you and the kind of device, with a code made from your connection that changes every day, so we can't follow you from one day to the next.

How we use it

  • To answer your questions and provide what you asked for.
  • To understand, in general terms, how people use the site so we can improve it.
  • To keep the site secure, prevent spam and meet our legal obligations, such as keeping tax records.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your information. We share it only with the services that help us run this site and our business, and only so they can do that work for us:

  • Railway hosts this website and its database, where the information described here is kept.
  • Amazon Web Services (S3) stores photos and files uploaded to this site.
  • SendGrid (Twilio) sends our emails.
  • Anthropic provides an AI assistant we may use behind the scenes, for example to help draft a reply to your message. It only processes what we give it to do that task.
  • Google Fonts supplies this site's typefaces. Your browser loads them from Google, which receives your IP address and browser details.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone's safety.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies and similar browser storage that the site needs to work, such as remembering that you've entered a gallery password, remembering how you found us until you close the tab and saving a form you haven't finished yet on your device.

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and our visit counts work without cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep information only as long as we need it for the reason we collected it. Inquiries that didn't go ahead can be deleted whenever you ask. When something is no longer needed, we delete it.

Your choices

You can:

  • Ask for a copy of the information we have about you, or ask us to correct it.
  • Ask us to delete your information, unless we have to keep it (for example, tax records).

To do any of these, email ashlyntewell@gmail.com. Depending on where you live (for example in the UK, the EU or California), you may have more rights under local law, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Keeping it safe

Your information is sent over a secure connection and kept on services with strong security. No system is perfect, but we take care to protect what you share with us.

Children

This site isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
